Matto Sainte-Foy Selected as December’s Project of the Month by Kollectif. Each month, Kollectif highlights a project within the architectural and design community of Quebec, celebrating innovation, creativity, and excellence in the field. It is with great pride that we see Matto Sainte-Foy recognized in this final month of 2024.
Matto Sainte-Foy was a significant project for LemayMichaud, who worked closely with the client to create a design that reflects his Italian heritage and captures the essence of his many travels. The space embodies a love for the table in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
This project takes on special meaning as it is located on the site of the very first Matto restaurant, which was lost due to an unforeseen incident. The long-standing relationship between LemayMichaud and Matto owner greatly enriched this project, resulting in a unique space that stands apart from the company's other locations while remaining true to the essence and spirit of the brand.
The distinctive character and attention to detail of the project were highlighted by Kollectif:
Why was this project selected as a feature on Kollectif?
What strikes you most upon entering Matto Sainte-Foy is the atmosphere, created by a rich array of materials skillfully integrated. Wood, marble, concrete, leather, ceramic, and even woolen fabrics coexist to create a space with a strong personality.
A standout feature of the project is the ceiling, which was carefully designed to create a sense of openness and to bring in soft, pleasant lighting. Beneath this ceiling, a large light fixture designed by LemayMichaud occupies the space perfectly.
The furniture completes the design by creating different sub-spaces and atmospheres. While there is often a sense of design uniformity in restaurants (materials, etc.), Matto Sainte-Foy demonstrates a contemporary layout that stands out with elegance.
